Early Christian Motifs/Symbols

Before all else…..the most recognizable symbol of the Christian religion is the cross. Other symbols and motifs include: the fish, the dove, the lamb, shepherds and their sheep (representing Christ as the Good Shepherd and the mother of Christ, Mary), the Greek letters of chi (X) and rho (P), the peacock and a few grapevines. Most of these images would be made into decorative mosaics and sculpture. Below are a few examples of Early Christian motifs and symbols.
